Character Information
Name: Arianna Simmons
Age: 24
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Character Type: Werewolf
Powers: Shapeshifting. Her affliction grants her accelerated healing, enhanced senses of smell and hearing, slower than normal aging and increased reflexes and speed. Arianna assumes the form of a larger than normal black wolf that is about the same weight as her human body. Her thoughts and memories are retained which allows her to act rationally. On the night of the full moon, her strength and speed are increased by roughly half and her human attributes become a bit subdued in wolf form.
Arianna’s lycanthropy is a rare form of the affliction. She is not subject to the moon’s influence i.e. forced to transform on full moon nights, but is rather tied to the cycle of the moon. Her power allows her to shift at will, but only if she is in practice. Her tie to the moon’s cycle means she must shift at least once during each phase of the moon, occurring on the night of the phase should whether she wants to or not if she does not change before that time. This means she must change at least once every seven days before the moon begins its next phase. If she does not, she will be bothered by a tingling sensation that builds until it completely consumes her and triggers the change.
Also, if she is subjected to extreme stress or emotional duress, she will unwillingly shift.
Personality: Arianna is a reserved and quiet person. The events of the past have changed her, leaving her with deep emotional scars that make it difficult to trust anyone. She has not accepted the fact that she is a werewolf and views the affliction as a terrible curse, resisting every change which causes her a great deal of pain. She feels that eventually she will become some bloodthirsty monster like those in movies. There are very few people that know her story and she is reluctant to tell anyone much about her past.
She uses running and her skill as a drummer as an outlet, preferring to be alone most of the time. Her job as a barista at the local coffee shop provides a modest income.
Detailed History: Arianna was born in Burlington, Vermont to a healthcare worker (mother) and a high school track coach (father). Her childhood was relatively typical and uneventful, performing well in school while taking up hobbies like music and sports. By the time she was 16, her skills as a drummer and raw talent as a cross country runner drew the attention of the local university. In her senior year, she was offered a scholarship by the University of Vermont, choosing music as her major while bringing the cross-country team to prominence. Meanwhile, she met Jason Harper, a young man from Montpelier, Vermont who shared similar interests. Soon, they were dating.
Arianna spent most of her time with Jason, meeting his friends and family In Montpelier. She was falling for him, despite some odd behavior at times such as his sudden disappearances and her inability to reach him during certain nights of the month. She thought nothing of it and continued to enjoy his company.
During her sophomore year, her parents were killed in an accident two days before Thanksgiving. Their stalled car was struck by a train, killing them instantly. Arianna was stricken with grief, causing her to falter in school. She never recovered, blaming Jason for his lack of support. Not long after, she broke up with Jason, citing her emotional instability. Jason took the breakup very hard, but stayed away.
Just before Spring Break, Arianna was out on a run in the woods at dawn, keeping herself in shape for the spring meets. She stopped when Jason’s father stood on the path. The last thing she remembered was him welcoming her to the pack and the prick of needle being plunged into her neck.
When she awoke, she found herself in a large room, strapped to a bed with leather restraints affixed to the posts. She saw Jason’s father staring at her. As she demanded her release, he smiled and told her that she would be Jason’s mate, serving to further his family’s line and bring new respect to the pack. She began to question him only to be cut off by the sight of a brown wolf entering the room. When it reached the bed, it jumped up and bit Arianna on the arm.
Minutes later, she began retching and convulsing before passing out. For the next seven days, she would drift in and out of consciousness, suffering from high fever and illness as she was turned by the lycanthropy. Jason never left her side, caring for her and constantly apologizing for her condition. On the seventh night, she was unbound and taken outside of the home.
The onset of her first change took her by surprise. Arianna howled in agony as her body shifted, increasing her pulse and blood pressure to near fatal levels. As her change completed, she found herself staring at the world with black and white vision and from a different perspective. She heard Jason’s father congratulate her, stating that few had survived such an ordeal and that she would give the pack strong and healthy children.
When he finished, Arianna feared for her future. She realized that she would be imprisoned forever within the walls of the home to serve as nothing more than a baby factory. She wanted to run, saw nowhere to go, surrounded on all sided by members of the pack that grinned, not hiding their eagerness to father a child with her. It was then when something occurred that she would never forget.
To her right, Jason broke ranks and charged his father, cursing the man and the fact that she would be treated like that. As he engaged his father, he yelled at her to run. Arianna hesitated only for a moment before bolting for the forest left accessible by Jason’s vacancy. Members of the pack tried to cut her off, but they were no match for her speed and agility.
Her legs carried her deep into the Vermont forest, driven by the howls and cries of her pursuers. An hour into the chase and with her energy beginning to wane, Arianna burst through a clearing and into the path of an approaching freight train. Diving clear and watching it pass she noticed an open door on a boxcar. It took what remained of her energy to catch up and hop on, leaving her pursuers behind, passing out when she realized she was safe.
Arianna awoke when a rail worker woke her up. She found herself in a rail yard in Boston, naked and freezing. He gave her his coat and offered to take her to a hospital, which she declined, asking only for someplace to get a meal. He took her to a shelter run by Father Vincent, who took her in, clothed her and listened to her story. He offered shelter until she could get on her feet again.
She remained in the shelter for six months, growing fond of Father Vincent and eventually becoming self-reliant. For the past three years, she has been employed in various places, finally settling on a job in a coffee shop as a barista, earning enough to afford a small apartment in Chelsea and save up enough for a drum kit which she uses to play in a garage band.
Arianna does not know what became of Jason or if the pack is looking for her. She is doing her best to keep a low profile, praying that they never find her.
